About OjosTV

OjosTV is a social video platform that connects people around the world through real-time video conversations. We're a small team building a large product: our infrastructure was written from scratch — server, P2P networking, matchmaking and database — and serves users in dozens of countries and 24 languages.

About the role

We're looking for a senior backend developer to join the core engineering team and lead the development of the services that power the product: the random chat matchmaker, the WebRTC signalling layer, real-time messaging and data services. This is a high-impact role — what you write reaches users within days, and you'll take part in architecture decisions from your first week.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain server-side services in Node.js, in an event-driven environment (deep-events)
  • Develop the matchmaker: queue management, user balancing, reputation and abuse prevention
  • Build and improve the signalling layer and WebRTC connectivity, including NAT traversal, TURN and fallbacks
  • Improve performance, stability and latency under high load
  • Design efficient data structures and binary protocols
  • Write tests, monitoring and diagnostic tooling for production issues
  • Work closely with the frontend, product and safety teams

Requirements

  • 4+ years of backend development experience, including at least 3 years with Node.js
  • Deep understanding of JavaScript, asynchronous programming and the event loop
  • Experience building real-time systems (WebSocket, WebRTC or similar)
  • Experience designing distributed systems and handling production incidents
  • Solid networking knowledge: TCP/UDP, TLS, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3
  • Ability to work independently, end-to-end ownership and clear communication
  • Good technical English

Nice to have

  • Experience with P2P networking, ICE, STUN and TURN
  • Experience with key-value databases or binary protocols
  • Experience with Service Workers and PWAs
  • Experience with moderation and user safety systems
  • Open-source contributions

What we offer

  • A salary of ₪25,000–35,000 per month, depending on experience
  • Hybrid work — from our Tel Aviv office or from home
  • Flexible hours, no time clock
  • A personal learning budget
  • A small team with no layers of management: the people who build it decide
  • Real engineering challenges: real-time video, P2P and infrastructure written from scratch

Hiring process

  1. A short intro call (about 30 minutes)
  2. A technical interview with a team member — a conversation about systems you've built and a real-world problem, no whiteboard puzzles
  3. A meeting with the team and management

We get back to everyone who applies, usually within a week.

Equal opportunity

We hire regardless of gender, age, origin, religion, sexual orientation or disability, and we encourage candidates from every background to apply.
